Sumptuous Sundays: Filling Station Makati

I'm a huge fan of diners because I'm a big fan of the 50's and there's one quaint diner in Makati that I've been frequenting lately called Filling Station. When you step inside it, it's like you're immediately transported to another time and space. Check out the rest of this post to see what I'm talking about!

Price Range: Main Course starts at P260.00

Filling Station is a 24- hr., 50's style diner located in Burgos, Makati. It's nestled in the middle of drinking bars and pubs that are drowned in colorful lights and bustling with drunk laughter and cheer. The restaurant only has a small sign, which makes it very easy to miss and there's zero parking space available, unfortunately. When going to this place, my friends and I would park our vehicles at the open parking space of Oxford Hotel (which is VERY TIGHT for SUVs and pick- ups, btw). There's street parking around the area, but securing a space would be tough since this is a very busy place, especially during night time and weekends.

Filling Station offers burger, pizza, panini, pasta, pancakes, waffles, milkshakes, all- day breakfast (including Pinoy breakfast), coffee, cocktails, spirits, and beer 24/7.

Given the parking hassle, is Filling Station worth the effort? I'd say yes! Click READ MORE and I'll show you around, plus check out the yummy dishes they're offering!

Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire EDP Review

Here's a review on Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire EDP.

Price: Ranges from P3,000.00-P6,000.00+
Bought From: Free
Other Locations: Available in all Rustan's department stores

Last year, I met Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire EDT's bigger sister, the EDP version. Just like the EDT version, I'm loving the EDP as well. What I like about the La Petite Robe Noire series is the perfumes have their very own personalities, yet there's one thing that binds them together, making them truly memorable: that tart, Cherry scent. Overall, I love how this series from Guerlain has owned the Cherry note!

This limited edition fragrance was released in 2011, resurrected in 2012, and introduced to the Philippine market in 2013. Just like the rest of the La Petite Robe Noire fragrances, this version is inspired by the eternality and sophistication of the Little Black Dress.

Sharing my love for this fragrance after the break!

FAN MAIL FRIDAYS: My 10 All- Time Favorite MAC Lipsticks

Hey everyone! Let's talk about lipsticks today. Since Valentine's Day is just around the corner, this will be a great go- to list in case you're looking for a new lipstick to wear on your Valentine's Date! :)

Hi Ms. Martha!

I was wondering if you could do a blog post on your favorite MAC lipsticks. I finally decided to splurge on some but idk what colors to get! We're about the same skintone so I thought to ask you for advice. :)

Hey Jess!

Thanks for writing to me again! :) Quick fact before I go into the list: Did you guys know that I used to own about 60+ MAC lipsticks? Yes! That's how much of a hoarder I was, but maturity kicked in eventually and I realized, I would only use my favorites so a lot of 'em went to the 'For Sale' bin. Luckily, a lot of girls had wholeheartedly adopted my lipsticks!

These are the only ones I left in my stash, my all- time favorite lipstick shades from MAC. Incidentally, these are the ones that I would keep on repurchasing from the brand.

Now here's the much awaited part, the list! Click READ MORE and find out the ten MAC shades that won me over.

HOW TO: Taking Care of Makeup Brushes With Natural Bristles

Today, I will talk about taking care of makeup brushes made with natural bristles and what cleansers I use on them. This topic brings to light the question: Do you really have to use two separate cleansers for your brushes? I'd say YES, although this is just how I do it. It depends if you're more on the meticulous side or practical side, but if you want to prolong the life, softness, and beauty of your natural- haired brushes, it's best to use a cleanser that is well- suited to their characteristics.

There are makeup brush shampoos that are labeled as is and are meant to do this, that, and so on to your brushes, but this is when the practical side of me comes out as I don't buy into the hype and just use products that are straight out of the bathroom and even the kitchen-this ranges from shampoos, body wash, and to dishwashing liquid, but I do have a makeup brush soap in hand for extra lazy days. Bottomline, you don't need to search far and wide for the perfect shampoo for your natural- haired babies as they're just right under your nose. :)

Going back to the 'taking care' part. So which is the best, most affordable, and most accessible cleanser for your natural makeup brushes? Shampoo! To prove a point, shampoo is used on our hair, which is undoubtedly natural and it only makes sense to use it on naturally- derived bristles-we even do this on wigs. I used dishwashing liquid on these types of makeup brush before and they ended up feeling stiff and scratchy so I switched to shampoo and the results were phenomenal: the bristles remained soft, fluffy, and flexible-definitely good for my facial skin. As for synthetic bristles, they fare just fine with dishwashing liquid (preferably with antibacterial properties) because they're engineered to stay the way they're made regardless of what type of cleanser you use on them, but not detergent because this is too abrasive plus it will leave nasty residues not only on the bristles but on your face as well.

Does it have to be a particular brand of shampoo? Not really as long as it's not dog or car shampoo! :p I say you can use whatever shampoo you want, but I'm sharing my favorites after the cut plus a few alternatives.

Benefit High Brow Glow Review + Swatches

Here's a review on Benefit High Brow Glow.

Bough From: Free
Other Locations: Benefit Greenbelt 5; Rustan's Shangri-La Mall; Rustan's Makati; SM Mall Of Asia; Trinoma Mall

I'll let you guys in on one of my makeup hacks: If I want to look effortlessly fresh in under 2 minutes, I just apply a champagne- colored eyeshadow on my brow bone, inner lid, and the area near my teardrop. This is what I do when I am lazy to wear full eye makeup or if I'm looking particularly tired on any day. I choose Champagne because it yields a natural, incandescent glow and it looks good on any skin tone. I always keep this eyeshadow hue in my bag so I can look bright- eyed and awake anytime I want to.

I'm loving this particular product of Benefit called High Brow Glow because it's my essential champagne eyeshadow in a much convenient form. No need to worry about cracked powder eyeshadows or carrying huge pots of cream eyeshadow!

Intended for the eye brows, this highlighting pencil imparts a soft focus, glowing finish to lift your look and highlight your brows.

12- Month Money Challenge For Freelancers

Have you seen the 52- week money challenge online? If yes, I think you should consider doing it because it's quite an easy way to put some sense into your finances without dealing with accounting jargons-it's a great way to start a good money habit too. I'm doing it myself this year.

However, I've observed that the 52-week money challenge, despite how great it is, has its own weaknesses too (but what the heck! I'm still doing it):

1. It requires close and careful monitoring, and it is impossible to not miss a week.
2. It will be hard to catch up, financially, if you miss a few weeks.
3. Depending on your chosen amount and when you reach the BER months, this could mean cutting at least a good P10,000 up to P30,000.00 from your salary. What if you only earn P10,000.00 or P15,000.00 a month or what if you have dependents? How can you accomplish this weekly challenge without the struggle?
4. When you reach the BER months, the challenge can cripple your bank account because of how much you need to put into it collectively.

As a Freelancer, I could understand why most people who are like me will find the 52-week money challenge a little hard to do. Because this life can have very lean months, not to mention we don't get the usual benefits like regular employees do such as transportation, food, mobile phone, and Internet allowance and insurance, therefore we have to pull the money needed for these from our very own pockets. We may command a higher rate than employees, but our overhead is bigger than them, not to mention we also have miscellaneous expenses just like everyone else on a weekly basis! More than this weekly challenge, I think these are the main reasons why Freelancers find it so hard to save money in general!

With that, I propose the 12-month Money Challenge for Freelancers, a very easy to follow, more doable money challenge for my fellow freelancers. It doesn't demand too much of your time, brain space, and most especially, money. Click READ MORE!
